I’m in love

Her name is mod_rewrite. Ever heard of her? She’s an Apache module, and man is she gorgeous. We first met last year. At first she really confused me and sent me mixed signals. On one minute, off the next; you know, like code or something. Always leaving me wondering “Is this really going to work?” Sometimes, if I do just the wrong thing, everything comes crashing down. It doesn’t take much. But once I figured her out, it’s amazing what I’ve gotten her to do for me. Things like redirects, URL rewrites – I’m getting chills just thinking about it. Oh, but don’t anyone tell my wife about this, she’ll kick mod_rewrite’s ass.

I’ve got news for you man. I have said this before and I’ll say it again and again and again, you can have 75 monitors and you will never increase your productivity. I found that when I had four monitors at work, all I got was a headache from swinging my head back and forth.

I must say though that it gives you more working room when you have all of your tools panels on one and the workspace on the other.

Yeah, I really don’t expect to get twice the amount of work done, but it is really nice not to have to resize and shuffle windows just to see what I’m doing. That was the main driving force in getting a second monitor. At any given time, I’m usually using at least 8-10 different programs, usually in conjunction with one another, so moving things around got to be a real pain. And then there is always the coolness/geek factor too, right??
